This course introduces the basics of American-style business writing and helps students further polish their writing skills. Students will learn to write more effective e-mails, letters, proposals, reports, and evaluations by considering purpose, needs of the reader, and style (or attitude). Students will also learn several organization strategies that apply to more complex writing situations. While a certain amount of lecture time is needed to convey essential writing principles, the course emphasizes a group approach with extensive in-class exercises and discussion. The goal of this course is for students to write natural, yet sophisticated, professional English.
